Maxwell Marshall is the Chorus Director and Fine Arts Chair at South Forsyth Middle School in Cumming, GA. Hired to start the Chorus Program from scratch in 2013, Mr. Marshall now teaches 240 students across five ensembles. In addition to his choral duties, he also sponsors the school’s Glee Club and student-led Fine Arts Council.
Under Mr. Marshall’s direction, both the SFMS Advanced Treble Chorus and SFMS Chamber Choir were selected to perform at the Georgia Music Educators Association’s Annual In-Service Conferences in 2025 and 2020, respectively. His students are often successful at GMEA All-State Chorus auditions, which has positioned SFMS as one of the top-performing middle schools each year since 2017. Recently, SFMS ranked first in the state among middle schools with 32 students selected for the 2023-2024 school year.
In 2022, Mr. Marshall was named "Teacher of the Year" at South Forsyth Middle School. He has also been invited to serve as the clinician for multiple GMEA Honor Chorus events, including the District XIII Sixth Grade Chorus in 2023, the District IX Intermediate Mixed Chorus in 2018, the District IV Middle School Men’s Chorus in 2018, and the District XIV Middle School Mixed Chorus in 2017.
Prior to his appointment at SFMS, Mr. Marshall served in a variety of roles for the Peachtree Ridge High School Fine Arts Department in Suwanee, GA. He is a graduate of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at The University of Georgia, having earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2012. His professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, the American Choral Directors Association, and the Georgia Music Educators Association. Mr. Marshall currently resides in Cumming, GA with his wife, Brittany, and his two children. In his free time, he enjoys collecting both sneakers and video games.
